Aims of the course
The course on Public Economics for European Union aims to provide a solid grounding in public economics, introducing first the basic of this discipline and exploring then how these issues should be treated within a supranational and union environment in general and within the European Union in particular. Some specific aspects, that are in the current European agenda for integration, will be covered and applied to the European context: fiscal harmonization, voting mechanism, social and unemployment insurance and pension right portability.
The specific objective is to deliver and generate knowledge of the issues, problems and solutions when dealing with the implementation of public economic policies in the European Union. Great emphasis will be given both to the theoretical formalization of the issues studied by Public Economics and to how these issues find an application within the European Union context. These aspects are extremely important in the education of future European citizens, economists, politics and decision-makers.
